We are a family of 5 who travel the province of Alberta, our mission? To study, research and bring to light the truth and the facts that we gather surrounding the wild horses in Alberta. We are not publicly funded, we are just a family with a love and passion for wild horses.

We have spent the last year studying, researching and documenting the wild horses we find, studying their land, their behaviour and their history. We hope this can be a transparent place where there are no biases, just facts and truth regarding the wild horses.

Our research consists of the following 5 areas, with more to come in the future.

  1. Numbers: everyone wants to know the numbers regarding how many wild horses are currently in Alberta, we have heard dozens of answers for this question. Some say 1000 wild horses, some say upwards of 3000. It may take some time, but we will get to the bottom of this, together.

  2. Human interference/intervention: this is a topic we will spend a lot of time researching, because we believe it is that important. From tourists trying to pet wild horses, to locals feeding them and giving them salt licks, to vehicles stopping to let horses lick the minerals off their vehicles, to wild horses stuck in human made snares, to a wild horse stuck with a leather collar due to university study failures. We have much to discuss regarding humans and wild horses. So let's get into it, study it and find the truth in it.

  3. Ecosystems and impact assessments: a topic big for the government and land conservationists, what impact do the wild horses have on the land in Alberta? Could zones where there is too much land damage be caused by human interference perhaps? Let's get into this topic and figure out the impact wild horses really have on the land, in what zones, and from what causes. Stay tuned.

  4. Behaviour and hierarchy: family bands, bachelor bands, sparring, seasonal migration, and all things wild horse psychology related. Let's study their minds, behaviour and band hierarchies together.

  5. Birth and death rates: from foaling season to the harsh winter seasons, what is the analysis on how many wild foals die every year, and how many live to see adulthood? How many are captured ? How many are missing? Let's get into it.

    And Finally,

  6. History and dna: let’s look at the facts, theories, traditions and controversies regarding the wild horses of Albertas history, and the wild horses of the north American continent as a whole. Let's see what makes these horses what they are today.

OUR Approach

Our family stands firm in a total hands off approach. We believe there cannot be full safety for these wild horses without a 100% hands off approach. This would entail no salt blocks distribution to wild horses, no trapping, no culling and no darting, no capture licenses, no adoptions. A total hands off approach, to observe, document, research and let nature tend to nature, and God handle his wilderness as He sees fit. This goes against humans nature to fix things, however we do not believe humans can fix this, once the numbers and the range are revealed it becomes evident wild horses could not span across this immense range due to a few ranchers or Spaniards releasing horses. We will get into all these topics further. We have spent the last year researching and observing, learning and asking questions. Many of which have never been answered. Which is why we started our research project to answer the questions we are longing for answers on. We hope you stay tuned for further updates and research to come.

If you want to support our work you can donate freely at your will on the contact us page. Donations go to travel and fuel to get to these of the path locations to document these horses.
